Who You Are in Christ: You Are Free From Condemnation

If you know Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, then you are free from condemnation.

Romans 8:1 clearly states, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”  Condemnation is for those who are guilty of sin and subject to punishment because of it. It’s like the weight of judgment hanging over your head. You know it’s there and you’re waiting for it to fall and crush you.

The good news is that Jesus dealt with your guilt and condemnation on the cross. If that is true why are there so many followers of Jesus that constantly feel condemned and unworthy? If you’re struggling with feelings of condemnation, then I have good news for you.

Jesus Christ nailed your sin upon the cross. Colossians 2:14 says, “having cancelled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us; which were hostile to us; and has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”

That means that every accusing thought and emotion you are feeling have already been taken out of the way by Jesus. God will never condemn you or send feelings of condemnation. Every one of them is from the enemy and is to be resisted.

If you feel condemnation it is from the devil. If you feel that God is just waiting to pour out His judgment and wrath upon you it is a lie. Jesus did it all on the cross.

Not only did Jesus nail your sin upon the cross, He actually became sin on your behalf. He took your sin upon Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made Jesus who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Because Jesus took your sin upon Himself, you can now be declared as righteous before God. The sins that held you under condemnation are taken away when you come to Christ. You become a new creation in Christ that is declared as righteous before God.

This righteousness comes from faith in Christ. It is called justification. It means that you are now in a right relationship with God and your sins are no longer held against you. Romans 5:9 says, “ Much more then, having now been been justified by Jesus’ blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”

Jesus not only took your sins upon Himself and reconciled you to God, Jesus purchased you for God with His own blood. The Bible uses the word “redeem” for this purchase. It’s a word used to describe the freeing of someone through a costly price.

Jesus Christ gave Himself to free you from all the condemnation of the the enemy. Therefore, I want to encourage to stand up and resist every thought and feeling of condemnation that you are experiencing in your life.

When the condemning words of the enemy bombards your mind or you feel the weight of condemnation upon your shoulders, I want to encourage you to stand up and resist the lies with the truth of God’s word.

Stand up strong and proclaim out loud:

Spirit of condemnation, I repent for giving you place in my life. I reject you and refuse to listen to your lies any longer. I choose today to stand upon the truth of God’s word. I agree with God that:

  • Jesus took all of my sin and nailed it to the cross. My sins can no longer be used against me.

  • Jesus became sin for me so I could be free from it and have a right relationship with God.

  • I am now reconciled to God and am no longer under condemnation.

  • I am righteous because of the blood of Jesus and God has nothing against me.

  • I refuse to fear God’s judgement because I’ve been purchased by Christ.

  • I am safe from God’s judgment and wrath because I’m in Christ.

Spirit of condemnation, I rebuke you and command you to leave my life in the name of Jesus Christ.

I encourage you to do this as often as it takes to be free from condemnation. Hopefully, just knowing that condemnation isn’t from God will help you overcome this lie of the enemy.
